Foreclosure the jobless are being punished.

Not too long ago it was taken for granted that unemployment benefits that generally come to an end after 26 weeks would be extended if unemployment persisted. The general opinion was that it was the right thing to be done. But today things have changed. The workers in America are facing the worst employment crisis since the time of the Great Depression. People have been without jobs for long 35 weeks. But despite this the Senate retired for a holiday without giving an extension to jobless benefits. Unable to tackle the foreclosure crisis the jobless are being punished. Why was this done?

The nation is up against a coalition of people in power who have no heart, no intelligence and who are totally confused. About the heartless nothing can be done – they are born that way. Little can be done about the second lot either. But may be the confusion being faced by the third lot can be cleared.

Those without hearts are the Republicans who have one aim and one alone – block anything Obama says or does even if the measure might give relief to the economic sufferings of the people and improve their own chances in the midterm elections. There is nothing to be shocked about this. They are very much there and comprise a big chunk of GOP caucus.

Those who lack brains and have no idea of what is going on are those like Sharron Angle – senatorial candidate from Nevada who has been saying again and again that the unemployed are in this fix because they like to remain here and collect benefits without working. Here is a sample quote, “You can make more money on unemployment than you can going down and getting one of those jobs that is an honest job but it doesn’t pay as much. We’ve put in so much entitlement into our government that we really have spoiled our citizenry”.

It is hard to believe that en masse the people of America are spoilt – perhaps right now they are desperate. It is doubtful if loads of evidence will be able to change the views of Angle and her likes. It is rather unfortunate that there are many like her walking around in the political circles of the country.

Hopefully there are few among the political players who are genuinely misinformed about the employment scenario and the benefits. Senator Jon Kyl (Republican/Arizona) seemed confused when he commented that extension of benefit would make the unemployment scenario worse because by continuing to pay this compensation would not give the incentive they need to try to look for work.
