CCCS in Atlanta received money to help in the foreclosure situation

The Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Greater Atlanta received $3.5 million as grant to step up its effort in foreclosure prevention counseling.

The money provides a much needed support to the house owners in Atlanta, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and many other places in the throes of foreclosure.

CCCS said that it had received the money to step up its foreclosure prevention endeavours in many of the metro areas. It will enable CCCS togive more counseling service than now to the endangered homeowners.

Suzanne Boas of CCCS said “This grant will enable us to help homeowners in metropolitan areas that have been hit hardest by the nation’s foreclosure crisis. At no cost to the homeowner, counseling provides people with information and resources to help them avoid foreclosure.

This is most effective when they reach out for help shortly after they become delinquent on their mortgage payments. We hope people concerned about foreclosure will call us for assistance at 800-251-2227.”

The grant will make it possible for CCCS of Greater Atlanta to hold 18,400 sessions related to foreclosure prevention. Founded on the traditional client distribution the 10 biggest MSA’s that will gain from the grant are Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, New York, Northern New Jersey, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Orlando, Chicago, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Riverside, Sand Bernardino etc.

These dollars came from the funds of National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program. The preliminary funding was sanctioned by the Congress through the fiscal Consolidated Appropriations Act. Extra funding was made available from the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 and the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009.

This grant of $3.5 million is the biggest given to any one body by NeighborWorks America. $3.5 million was also given to four differing non-profit housing agencies dealing with foreclosure prevention.
