foreclosure listings

To understand the ferocity of the staggering number of Flint foreclosure listings, it requires understanding of the scenario in the state that is quite different from the rage of foreclosures sweeping across the rest of the country. Flint foreclosure listings are largely due to the breakdown of the auto industry in this region. This was the primary cause for foreclosure listings while elsewhere sub-prime mortgages triggered the crisis.

Flint City is in Michigan State and is the seat of Genesee County. It is situated by the Flint River about 66 miles distant from Detroit. In 2000 it was the fifth largest city in Michigan.

The name of Flint is associated with General Motors Corporation – the latter made its debut here in Flint. During the middle of the 30’s it was in Flint that was demonstrated Flint-Sit-Down Strike by the automobile workers. This led to the making of the United Auto Workers. It is but natural that today Flint has become identified with the fall of the auto industry that has led to innumerable Flint foreclosure listings. The decline of auto manufacturing units began from the late 1980’. The present financial crisis gave the death blow to the rot that has started some years ago.

In March this year many government heads joined hands with worried citizens to put pressure on the federal government not to forget Flint foreclosure listings. In Quinn Chapel AME Church an event termed “Recovery Express Rally” was staged. The present mayor together with a previous mayor as well as members of the city council rallied together with members of FACT or Flint Area Congregations Together. The focus of the event was on Flint foreclosure listings and how it was adversely affecting the community. FACT took the decision of sending five of its representative to Washington regarding Flint foreclosure listings – this being part of the Recovery Express. The message to Washington was simple and to the point “Don’t forget Flint”.

With the help of motley of devices including songs, prayers and speeches the organizers sketched out their plan of action for the trip to Washington. They held the lenders responsible for the crisis and wanted help for the homeowners to modify their loans and initiate new rules and regulations for the financial system.

Lately a new idea has taken root in Flint – since the decline is going on for a long time it is best to speed it up. It made more sense to pull down the houses instead of waiting for it to become abandoned and derelict.
