foreclosure homes

Reno City is in Washoe County of Nevada State, USA. It is the third biggest city in Nevada after Las Vegas and Henderson. It is included in the Reno-Sparks Nevada Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The popular nickname for Reno is that it is The Biggest Little City in the World. It is here in Reno that the gaming giant Harrah Entertainment made its debut. In the 1850’s some pioneers settled in a comparatively fertile valley of the Truckee River that meandered drained into Pyramid Lake coming from Lake Tahoe. The settlers lived on subsistence farming and started trade and business with those travelling the California Trail. With the discovery of gold and silver in the near vicinity the modest community swelled into a big centre.

With the waning of the mining industry Las Vegas and Reno became hubs for politics and business. The passing of gambling laws in 1931 and easy divorce laws resulted in a second boom for Reno. “I am going to Reno” soon came to be the same as saying “I am getting a divorce.” When other states began to toe the same line and business fell, business taxes were made lenient to give a push to the economy. The rail and road connection, congenial tax climate and cheap land attracted people and Reno soon became a centre for warehousing and goods distribution. This in turn led to the buildingof new homes and a bubble in housing prices.

The bubble soon came to be followed by the bust leading to Reno foreclosure homes. In 2007 thanks to foreclosed homes the housing market had fallen here by 7% with the median price of homes falling to $315,000. Another reason behind the spike in Reno foreclosure homes is the fall and change in the gambling business. Gamblers and tourists from San Francisco and Sacramento mostly came to Reno while those from Los Angeles and Phoenix went to Las Vegas. The shutting down of quite a few downtown casinos led frenetic activity in converting these into condos. All ultimately led to the sad tale of Reno foreclosure homes.

Growing number of Reno foreclosure homes has led to residents taking up the cudgel. The vacant Reno foreclosure homes have become eyesores that brought down the property value of adjacent houses. The vacant Reno foreclosure homes attract criminals and drug pushers. Stagnant pools and overgrown gardens in Reno foreclosure homes bred mosquitoes and termites. The numbers of foreclosures in Washoe County are going up after the end of the deadline on moratoriums.
